I don’t want to upset anybody. This is definitely not my intention here. Well, I enjoy provoking people and pushing them for the sake of a good conversation (for example when I meet my liberal friends I act like a socialist or other way around). However, this not the case.

#IWD2019

Every year around 8th of March I am reflecting on this topic. This year I decided to speak up and check if there are other people (women and men, generally speaking, human beings) who are sharing my feelings/opinions.

International Women’s Day — it doesn’t feel right! There are other International Days. like Refugees Day, Depression Day, Cancer Day etc. yet none of those days mentions the gender!

We want to be treated equally, have the same opportunities and finally close the gender salary gap! Yet, we have a special day in the year — International Women’s Day!

If we aim towards equality why we focus on differentiation?

For way too long we have been living in a world where boys and girls were taught different values and encouraged to achieve different goals (check out this Ted Talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie “We should all be feminist”). Therefore a certain level of additional push is required to get to equality. I have no doubts about it.

I don’t need a special day on the calendar to celebrate my gender!

What I need is a world (not a day) where we all inspire, admire and respect each other for what we have achieved and how much we shared with others no matter if we wear bras or suits, we are black, white or any other color. It doesn’t matter who we love!

So let’s celebrate an International Human’s Day instead! We all deserve it!

How about your opinion? Do we need an International Women’s Day? If yes, why?
